Pack 39 Service Committee

posted Sep 13, 2015, 7:40 AM by Trent Leonard

Hello Pack 39-

The goal of Pack 39’s Service Committee is to make service to others a visible, tangible part of the Pack’s mission. By upholding the Scout Oath in an effort to “help other people at all times,” we hope to instill in each Scout a sense of kindness, charity and good stewardship.

To reinforce the Pack’s ongoing dedication to serving others, Scouts will be asked to contribute one item (or more) for charity at every Pack meeting. These drives are relatively low cost, but the benefit to others is great. Of course, Scout participation in these drives is optional, but we hope they will want to participate in many of them.

At the monthly Pack meeting bins will be set out for each den to place their donated items. There will be a running tally of how many items have been collected. Here is the fun part! The den with the highest number of donated items per scout will get to “pie” their Den Leader and the Cub Master at the May end-of-year picnic. Update tallies will be part of the monthly slideshow, so the boys will always know which den has brought the most items to date.

Below is the list of items we will be collecting over the course of the 2015-16 Scouting year. I am also attaching this list as a pdf file.

PACK 39's MONTHLY SERVICE DONATIONS

  • SEPTEMBER:   Non-perishable food
    Inter-Faith Council food pantry, ifcweb.org/needs
  • NOVEMBER: Travel-sized toiletries
Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill, rmh-chapelhill.org
  • FEBRUARY: No pack meeting
  • MAY: The den that contributed the most items (per Scout) throughout the year gets to “pie” their den leader AND the cub master!

The September 15th Pack meeting will benefit the Inter-Faith Council food pantry. The current needs on their website include canned meats/tuna, canned vegetables (hold off on corn and green beans for now), pasta and pasta sauce, soup, dried beans, canned fruit, rice, peanut butter, cereal, and grits/oatmeal packets. No glass jars please.

I am excited for the start of another year of Scouting! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, feedback or ideas.

-Sharon, Pack 39 Service Chair
